In January, 2015, Susquehanna Township School District began a systematic review of its curriculum to ensure that instruction is aligned with Pennsylvania Core Standards in English/language arts, math, science and social studies.
A cross-functional team of teachers as well as building and district office administrators are currently compiling scope and sequence documents that identify concepts to be learned and competencies essential for student success at each grade level. The documents are being designed using a model for curriculum development by McTighe and Williams and called Understanding by Design. The state Department of Education has based its core standards curriculum framework and learning modules on the 1998 research-based framework.
